Looking to enjoy pints of beer at a happening British Pub just off the beaten path?
Tired of how young the Crescent Street Scene has become?
Look no further than the Burgundy Lion on Notre Dame just East of Atwater (2496 Notre Dame W.). Situated on two levels, it is adorned with British paraphernalia to give that authentic British pub feel.
This pub has a varied selection of beer on tap including traditional british beers such as Smithwicks, Bottingtons, Guinness, Harp, and even such local microbrewers such as Bierbrier and Blanche de Chambly.
It also has a full selection of mixed drinks in case beer is not your poison.
If you are hungry don't hesitate to try to the blue cheese poutine, unique to Montreal. They also have some traditional British meals such as Burgundy Roast, or Steak and Frites.
The crowd is typically 25+ and predominantly well educated. Top marks goes to management for hiring attractive and friendly waitresses. They appear to be enjoying the place just as much as the patrons.
Be forewarned however this place gets busy. If you are hoping to get a table there for dinner on a Friday night I would recommend going at 6:30. I've been there a couple of times after 7 and already it was packed.
We sincerely hope that it doesn't become a victim of its own success and suffers from "Nobody goes there anymore, it is too crowded" - Yogi Berra. Perhaps they will just have to figure out a way to expand.
